Raising the Bar for Heart Failure Treatment: CRT-D Implantation at Parul Sevashram Hospital
Heart Failure is a disease in which heart functions are decreased.
When heart function is reduced beyond a certain threshold, patients start getting symptoms like breathlessness, dizziness and chest pain. These patients also require repeated hospitalization.
In Spite of complete guideline directed medical therapy, more than 30% patients remain symptomatic and require repeated hospitalization. For such patients cardiac resynchronisation therapy and defibrillator (CRT-D) implantation is done. CRT-D is highly sophisticated and advanced form of pacemaker which is done by inserting 3 leads into the heart as against to one or two leads in conventional pacemaker.
Benefits of CRT-D Implantation
CRT-D implantation has shown remarkable benefits in heart failure management:
- Improved heart function through enhanced synchrony.
- Reduced symptoms such as breathlessness and fatigue.
- Fewer hospitalizations due to better heart performance.
- Decreased risk of sudden cardiac death, thereby improving survival rates.
- Enhanced overall quality of life for patients.
CRT-D decreases the ‘QRS’ duration on ECG which improves synchrony in heart and leads to improvement in heart functions, decreased symptoms and decreased number of hospitalisations. CRT-D also reduces the chances of sudden cardiac death, thereby increasing lifespan in such patients and hence helps in improving overall quality of life.
Department of Cardiology at Parul Sevashram Hospital with its team of senior cardiologist Dr. Sanket Saraiya and Dr. Anant Agrawal successfully conducted 2 CRT-D implantation in such patients under Ayushmann Bharat yojna scheme, thereby giving new ray of hope to such patients and raising the bar of treatment in Heart failure.
